Gerry Huggins
Gerry Huggins discovered his passion for the saxophone at the age of nine, beginning a musical journey that has now spanned decades. By his senior year of high school, his talent had already earned him the Outstanding Musician Award.
He attended California State University, Bakersfield, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications while continuing to study and perform with the Bakersfield College Jazz Ensemble. During that time, he received two Most Outstanding Musician awards and earned two Outstanding Soloist awards at the prestigious Fullerton College Jazz Festival.
Gerry began his professional music career in the mid-1990s when he was invited to record on Rhyme or Reason, the second album by the Bakersfield-based band The Pleasure Merchants. He went on to perform with several well-known regional groups, including Thee Majestics, The Old School Band (T.O.S.B.), and The Rhythm Kings.
A collaboration with keyboardist Darnell Gholston helped shape Gerry’s musical direction and solidified his passion for smooth jazz and R&B. While those styles remain his signature sound, his versatility also allows him to perform funk, jazz, old-school R&B, big band, and classical music.
As a recording artist, Gerry released his debut album, Ocean Breeze, in 2002. He followed it with A Very Special Christmas in 2005 and From the Heart in 2007.
Today, Gerry continues to entertain audiences throughout the Midwest with a blend of smooth jazz, pop, R&B, funk, and timeless classics. Whether performing for weddings, corporate events, private parties, or community festivals, he is known for his expressive sound, professionalism, and ability to create the perfect musical atmosphere.
