Gerry Huggins

At age nine, Gerry began to explore the musical world with his saxophone. He also played upright bass in junior high and high school, but his talents with his saxophone won him an Outstanding Musician award his senior year. Huggins attended Cal State University, Bakersfield and received a Bachelor's Degree in Communications with a minor in Computer Science. While studying communications, he participated in the marching band and jazz ensemble at Bakersfield College, as well as the CSUB jazz ensemble and small jazz combos. His stint in the Bakersfield College jazz band earned him two Most Outstanding Musician awards. In addition, he won two Outstanding Soloist awards while competing at the Fullerton College Jazz festival. After college, he began playing for a variety of local bands and realized that his true passion was Adult Contemporary, R&B, Funk, Jazz and Old School genres. He credits his drive from other saxophonists such as Gerald Albright, Najee, Boney James, Warren Hill, Everette Harp, Audley Reid, Steve Cole, Maceo Parker, Kirk Whalum, Richard Elliot, and many more. Huggins' debut album, "Ocean Breeze" was released in 2002, and was followed by "A Very Special Christmas" in 2005 and "From the Heart" in 2007. Since moving to Missouri in 2013, Huggins has performed at many venues, including Durso Hills Winery & Bistro, Twin Oaks Vineyards, Weingarten Vineyard, Chaumette Vineyards & Winery, and Si Senor Restaurant. He also travels to St. Louis frequently to perform weddings and private parties. Huggins is currently working on new material and hopefully will be released in the near future. He has a son and a wonderful wife, and now resides in Fredericktown, MO.
